About Woven by Toyota

Woven by Toyota is contributing to Toyota's once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by our history of continuous invention "for the sake of others," our mission is to expand the definition of mobility, enhance its societal contributions, and challenge the norms of mobility with human-centric innovation.

We operate around four pillars: AD/ADAS (Automated Driving/Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), Arene (a vehicle software production platform for SDVs - Software Defined Vehicles), Woven City (a mobility test course), and Cloud & AI (digital infrastructure supporting collaboration). Additionally, essential business functions underpin the implementation of these teams, working together to achieve a "zero-accident society" and "mass production of happiness."

🌟 About the Team 🌟

We are the Advanced UX team at Woven by Toyota.

Our team comprises animators and researchers with diverse expertise and cultural backgrounds, dedicated to creating intuitive, innovative, and visually appealing user experiences. We aim to define the future of automotive interfaces, focusing on areas such as Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and automated driving technologies.

Our mission is to bring the next generation of driving experiences to life through a meticulous, data-driven design approach.

👤 Who We're Looking For 👤

Woven by Toyota is seeking a UI/UX Animator to join the ADAS UX team at our Tokyo office.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the user experience for next-generation driver assistance and automated parking technologies, breathing life into in-car interfaces through motion and interaction.

This position demands a blend of creative vision and technical expertise, requiring a deep understanding of motion design principles and cross-functional collaboration skills. You will transform static concepts into dynamic animations that accurately convey design movement, timing, and intent, acting as a bridge between product planning, design, and engineering stakeholders.

In this cross-functional role, high quality is expected in both concept and implementation. Your mission is to create intelligent and sophisticated design solutions that make complex systems feel "simple," "seamless," and "safe." Your animations will directly drive the evolution of cutting-edge automotive UX experienced by millions of users worldwide.

You will work closely with 2D/3D designers, engineers, researchers, and project managers to contribute to Toyota's long-term mobility vision. Flexibility in a multicultural environment, commitment to teamwork, and a collaborative mindset are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality animated prototypes using industry-standard animation tools, based on 2D concept art.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to understand and reflect design intent, visual hierarchy, and storytelling objectives in animations.
  • Partner with 3D artists and software implementation teams to support the integration of animations into the final in-car product.
  • Act as a liaison between design and engineering teams, clearly communicating and documenting specifications for timing, transitions, and duration to ensure consistency.
  • Visualize complex motion behaviors to facilitate alignment and understanding during reviews and stakeholder presentations.
  • Support the creation of highly accurate interactive prototypes that replicate in-car experiences using tools like Rive and ProtoPie.
  • Design and deliver animation deliverables with mass production implementation in mind, considering technical constraints.
  • Contribute to the development of Woven's animation library, motion guidelines, and prototyping best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of practical experience as an animator or motion designer, with a preference for experience in UX/UI-related projects.
  • Practical knowledge of design tools such as Figma, After Effects, Rive, ProtoPie, or equivalent.
  • Skill in importing Figma components into After Effects and reconstructing them.
  • Understanding of 2D asset pipelines and file formats (e.g., SVG, PNG sequences).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members and external stakeholders, and to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to balance creative ideation with technical feasibility.
  • Deep understanding of UI/UX animation principles.
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant UX animation or motion design work.
  • Excellent communication skills to build trust with engineers, stakeholders, and other department members.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent listening skills to translate research insights into meaningful user experiences.
  • Emphasis on a growth mindset and collaborative work style.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the automotive, transportation, or aviation industries.
  • Knowledge of or experience with version control systems like GitHub.
  • Japanese language proficiency (business level is desirable).
  • A valid Japanese driver's license.
  • Ability to leverage scripting or light coding experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript) to automate asset processing or create behavior prototypes.
  • Experience with agile project management tools such as Jira.
